What is the difference between therapy & coaching?

Therapy:

  • Therapy originates from a medical model of “What is wrong?”

  • It often focuses on healing the past and helping with an area of life where someone is suffering, has emotional pain or family difficulties.

  • Therapy is useful for mental health issues such as anxiety, depression, trauma, or life situations that cause persistent unmanageable stress.

Coaching:

  • Coaching originates from a sports model of “How do I improve?” It’s a partnership and collaboration between the coach and client.

  • Coaching is action oriented and strengths based.

  • People who benefit from coaching are ready to look ahead to live into new possibilities, leadership, and impact.
